Not A Phase Safeguarding Policy

Not A Phase is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals involved in our activities. This policy outlines our commitment to safeguarding and the measures we take to protect those in our care, specifically trans and gender-diverse adults aged 18 and over.

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Protect adults who are involved with Not A Phase.

      • Provide staff and volunteers with the overarching principles that guide our approach to safeguarding.

This policy applies to all staff, trustees, volunteers, and anyone working on behalf of Not A Phase.

  • Safeguarding: Protecting the health, well-being, and human rights of individuals to ensure they live free from harm, abuse, and neglect.

      • Vulnerable Adult: An individual aged 18 or over who may be in need of community care services by reason of mental or other disability, age, or illness, and who is, or may be, unable to take care of themselves or unable to         protect themselves against significant harm or exploitation.

This policy has been drawn up based on law and guidance that seeks to protect vulnerable adults, including:

  • Care Act 2014
  • Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006
  • Protection of Freedoms Act 2012
  • Working together to safeguard adults
  • Data Protection Act 2018
  • Sexual Offences Act 2003

       • Charities Act 2011

Our Committments

We are committed to:

  • Ensuring everyone involved with Not A Phase understands their roles and responsibilities in respect to safeguarding.
  • Promoting a safe environment and culture where concerns can be raised without fear of reprisal.
  • Ensuring all staff and volunteers are aware of the signs of abuse and neglect and know how to respond appropriately.
  • Providing effective management for staff and volunteers through supervision, support, training, and quality assurance measures.
  • Recruiting staff and volunteers safely, ensuring all necessary checks are made.
  • Recording, storing, and sharing information professionally and securely, in line with data protection legislation and guidance.
Recognising Abuse

Abuse can take many forms. It may be:

  • Physical
  • Emotional
  • Sexual
  • Neglect
  • Financial
  • Discriminatory
  • Institutional

       • Domestic abuse

Responding to Concerns

Any concerns about the welfare of an individual must be reported immediately to the designated safeguarding officer (DSO).

Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO)

The DSO for Not A Phase is Danielle Anson-Jones, danielle@notaphase.org. The DSO is responsible for:

  • Receiving and managing concerns about the safety and welfare of individuals.
  • Ensuring appropriate action is taken in response to concerns.

       • Liaising with external agencies as necessary.

Training

All staff and volunteers will receive training to ensure they are aware of safeguarding issues, including how to identify, respond to, and report concerns.

Reviewing

This policy will be reviewed annually or in response to significant changes in legislation or organisational changes.
